I built my own PC because it was best and the cheapest option. I spent like 700$ altogether, not including the peripherals and all that. It can run any game at min 50 FPS.
Now, like you say I'm going into the next year in my school, and I need a good laptop. So if you want to get something you can bring to friends houses, school, holidays, then buy a laptop.
I mean my PC is great, but sometimes I wish I could bring it around to play with friends or on a trip, etc.
The decision is down to you. If you are the type that wont mind having bad peripherals on a laptop, like a mic, speakers, keyboard, etc. then buy a laptop.
Some great benefits to having a PC rather than a laptop is that you can customize anything. Like I have GX Gaming Speakers, a classy microphone, a steelseries keyboard, a gaming mouse and Razer mouse pad and a huge BenQ monitor. So you can guess it looks awesome as fuck.
PC beats all in my opinion because it is yours. You built it, you own it, you customized it. The only thing good about laptops is that they are portable.
User preference at the end of the day mate.

Hey man, what makes the AMD Phenom II X6 1090T so good? Like why is it so expensive? I don't know a lot about processors, only the GHz and the number of cores makes sense to me. For instance, I have an 8 core Amd 4.0GHz processor, and it is half the price of yours, so why is yours more expensive?

I think I'll end with a desktop.
I'll just upgrade my current PC by buying more ram and a new GTX graphics card.
And I'll just use a phone as a portable device.
Get a desktop cuz there are few laptops that u can upgrade after a while. While at pc u can always take sth out and upgrade it so u can always play games that are "popular" at the moment. But that is just me.

What can u run on it? How much did it cost u?
I have a Desktop, and I also have a macbook pro for holidays and such. The mac isn't that great and If I had the choice it would be swapped for a gaming laptop but I'll always prefer my desktop.
Laptop with eGPU is very good
