Reputation on MPGH

Please can anyone explain how reputation works here ? Thank you

In case a user who happens to have a decently high amount of reputation points such as myself rep comments you, your reputation points will be increased. Whenever that happens, you get a notification saying that user X has rep commented you and your reputation points have been raised up as such, (green icon).

Whenever you see a grey icon beside the reputation comment notification, it's because whoever rep commented you didn't have enough reputation points to make your reputation points increase.

It does also depend on the amount of posts the user has. User groups may have an affect too.
