Can a parent kidnap his own child?

So I was watching a castle episode and it crossed my mind. So basically a mother kidnapped her own daughter to get 750k but she didn't have any court restraint or anything, she did it for the money, so can she be charged with kidnapping? since tech it is her own child??? Also would you do this if you were put in this position?

Theres things a parent must provide for a child being education and a healthy living environment if she can provide those while traveling with the child then its not kindnapping. Most parent kidnappings happen when a divorced parent doesn't get enough custody time. Its tv its not real

I legit just watched a CNN special on this last night and yeah it happens and yes you can be charged for kidnapping and or child endangerment.

Definition of kidnapping:

to steal, carry off, or abduct by force or fraud, especially for use as a hostage or to extract ransom.

I don't know in how far you can call it kidnapping. Unless stolen away from his father it seems to be like something that, by definition, isn't easy to peform. But what others said I guess it has to do with how you treat your child.

Yeah, my great grandparents divorced, and my great grandpa kidnapped my grandad (his own son) and travelled the world with him (under different names etc). Interpol chased him for years, and my grandad missed most of his school education. The stories from it are great though

Well if you are their parent and have full legal custody over said child, then as long as your provide a safe environment, even if they don't want to go you can take them with you.
