1700X Upgrade.

Hello everyone, so i'll be upgrading my brothers pc and i'll get him a 1700X, i can choose between the MSI B350 PC MATE motherboard or the ASUS ROG Strix B350-F gaming motherboard. Which one shall I choose?

Either of them.
They seem to be the same for the most part in terms of SATA connectors, the only difference is that it seems the ASUS one has 1 more USB Type-A port on the IO though the MSI has a USB Type-C in sacrifice for losing that one Type-A.

If I had the choice, I'd rather get MSI since everything I've owned from them has been amazing, compared to ASUS that I've had a bad experience with (refused to RMA my notebook) and I refuse to buy anything from them now.

All motherboards are the same, just look at the connectors and see if it'll be good enough for the future if you ever need to add more storage drives or plug more things in via USB etc.

choose cheaper motherboard will not give any benefits. just take motherboard with high memory speed suports

Can't talk about the MSI board, but I currently use the ASUS board.

The thing with the zen architecture is, make sure the memory is compatible. I bought uncompatible memory and was only able to get 2166MHz stable, when the sticks were clocked at 3000MHz. Also don't get a 1700X. It's just a binned 1700, and it doesn't come with a cool RGB fan. If you overclock, there won't be any difference between 1700/1700X/1800X.

lol I don't think that RGB fan is the thing that really matters. also yes they are top tier so they'll basically work the same, some are more future-proof than others

The 1700X/1800X are just binned 1700s. You're paying less for generally the same performance(5% difference at most), and you get a RGB fan. I don't see why you would want to go with the 1700X/1800X

Exactly no reason to do that. just checked online. indeed the speed is just +5%

Of course RGB matters But if you overclock the 1700 you will need a new cooler (?) so then i wont use the cool rgb fan included. And it's for my brother and he wont overclock.
