It really depends on your service, But in reality it's more for side-money, best bet is a real job to earn a steady income

I have seen more people fail than make it, even staff members here do it but that doesn't mean they make it. You can definitely earn good money but what you call good money is not what someone else might consider good money. For my current lifestyle I barely make enough money to get by, ~3000; however, most sellers online don't make that. If I tried to do what most sellers do online and try to survive on their income, I would have to cut back severely. But yeah as the alien above me suggested, treat it as a short term side job, and you won't be hurt by it (if you don't scum of course). Also there are a dime a dozen sellers out there, if you are not good at what you do or if your service is not unique, don't expect any good returns.

When I did e-commerce I probably earned like a total of like $40,000 over 5 months, which is pretty good imo. It's also very risky. If you get steady orders, you're in the clear. If you don't, well its demoralizing. On the other hand, it doesn't require nearly as much time as an actual job. So if you do do it, do it as a side business.
