The i3 isn't that bad. I actually have one right now. Probably around black friday I'll go check Microcenter for an 875k myself. That's like twice the processor.

That's a core2duo/quad board. Unfortunately it requires DDR2 ram and 1156 needs DDR3 - so you're going to need to buy ram if your going to upgrade. What's your current processor?

This is the best possible processor you can get.

That doesn't always work since there are processors that are on sell that are cheaper then the ones that cost more even when they are better. Also, some of these processors are only a couple dollars apart and I want to know the differences in them.

Nope, if you get a new board and processor, you'll also need new memory - and memory is pricey. So that will total about $850 or so to get 8 gb ddr3 (the price is about $100 per 2 gb), $100 for a decent board, and $350 for the 875k which is extreme for the boost. The Core2Quad I posted isn't a spectacular improvement but if you get a high-end cooling solution you can overclock it to around 3.4 ghz maybe it will be on par with a stock speed i7. I don't know much about 775 processors.

edit: 875k is $250 at microcenter.

Wow so RAM prices have gone up in the past year!?!??! I got 8 gb, 2gb a stick for $50 each last year. DDR3 was only about $10 more a stick back then.

Anyways how much better do you think the 875k is than my Quad-core 2.4 Ghz? Do you think I will notice a big difference?

Wow thanks, that was helpful. Anyways, do you know the difference between the 1366 and the 1156?

Not significant if any. 1336 boards are just a lot more expensive (like $250 upwards last time I checked). If you got a microcenter nearby they have good discounts over newegg. Mines about an hour drive away but I still save money.

ITT: newbies that don't know shit. When buying a CPU you should consider the mobo and ram as well (and not just ram size and mobo's sata connectors)

There are no Microcenters in Utah so I guess I will just them from newegg if I can. No tax since its online and only $18 more for all of that plus an extra 2 GB of corsair DDR3 RAM.
