My suggestion would be to create the illusion of a glass floor, with the reflections of the smoke on it.
That will just give it depth and some dimension.
Can always put lighting effects in the smoke as well, which would reflect off of the glass floor nicely, and pretty much fill the thing up in terms of balance between negative and positive space.
I know a few things you could do in the bg as well.
