[School of Nunya][Modding .hfs 101]- Lesson(1 flinch break-offs)

Preface:
So, in the near future I plan on releasing several skill edit mods. I will be doing these skill edits on clean .hfs and I realized that would make it difficult for people to use them along with other mods such as 1 hit kills, break-offs and others.

I don't want to have to release multiple versions of each, so I pondered it for a bit and came up with the solution: I will educate the community on how to make all the popular mods themselves.

I am here in these topics to teach and help each and every one of you. Therefor do not be afraid to ask stupid, simple or repeated questions as long as they relate to the topic. I will help you regardless.

I will not be describing the process of converting from hfs to zip and back as there are already tutorials for that.

PLEASE USE NOTEPAD++ FOR TEXT EDITOR AND SQLITE FOR DATABASE.

So with that said, lets get on with our first lesson: 1 flinch break-offs. (This is an easy one)

Tutorial:
The 1 hit break-off mod is done within 763FD8F12D3D013194261D98B4AEF0FB0F6FBA1B.hfs.

Step 1:
Open 763FD8F12D3D013194261D98B4AEF0FB0F6FBA1B.hfs.

Step 2:
Open npc_variations.tx*****mp, in Notepad++.

Step 3:
Hit crtl + f and switch to the replace tab.

Step 4a:
In the "Find What" box enter "num_flinches_to_break" "2" (with quotes)

Step 4b:
In the "Replace With" box enter "num_flinches_to_break" "1"

Step 4c:
Click the replace all button.

Step 4d: Repeat steps 4a through 4c with "3", "4", "5", "6" in place of the "2".

Step 5:
Close and save, make sure the .zip file is updated with the changes and convert it back to .hfs, you are done. Congratulations on making 1 flinch break-off mod.

where is this npc_variation thing and is notepad++ downloaded or what? cause when i open those files it's just gibberish

Notepad++ is a program that you need to download.

im sure this either IS or will be the dumbest question you will get.....but i see all these flinching and "break-off" things and im not certain what the heck they are.....is it when you like, make the boss fall to its knees or what? sorry for the arrogance and ty for the answer which im sure will come shortly

Break-Off refers to a drop you get when hitting a certain spot of the boss a certain amount of times with things like spears, objects, shield bashes etc.. For example Irukul's tusk.

Flinch is what happens when you hit said spot with said things. It requires a certain number of "flinches"(hitting the breakoff spot) to get the drop.

It is not possible. You have to convert the hfs into a zip. And find the text file and open up (SQlite for Db3 heroes file)
