when you are making a scope you use the alpha channel to tell the game what is gonna be visable and invisable. and when you make guns you use it to make shine kinda thing, fx if you are making a gold/silver then its very important to use alpha
Hey, I am a noob in texture.
So I wonder.
What is the alpha channel for.
And, how or why should I make/edit it.
I guess there is more wondering this.
(Yeh, I forgot the search thing here but...)

Simple, alpha is in range from white to black
the darker(totally black) = invisible
the brighter(totally white) visible
so making it gray would make it semi transparent.

On the color-map file (col file) the alpha is used for the camo positioning, using what @XiTiX the camo can be visible on some parts of the weapon.
offtopic: anyone tried to make a camo with alpha layer? that would be soper useful for creating th Pack a Punch camo from black ops
