Trouble with the mod loader and an X-Ray mod; crash on start up

I downloaded the mod loader and X-Ray mod listed in this thread, and I've followed the instructions for both, but I've run into a problem.

Any time I launch from Minecraft.exe, after I log in, I get the following error log:
    Mods loaded: 1
    ModLoader Beta 1.6.5

    Minecraft has crashed!
    ----------------------

Minecraft has stopped running because it encountered a problem.

I'm guessing I've done something wrong, but I can't figure out what. Anyone have any insight on how to fix it? I've tried the install method twice, with a fresh install of Minecraft on the second try, but to no avail.

    EDIT:
I've just done it step-by-step to figure out where it breaks. Deleting META-INF works fine, but then adding the mod loader breaks it. Guessing it's out of date? Anyone have a more up-to-date link?

I've done it three times now. Perhaps, though, I am doing it wrong; please, correct me if this is improper:

    Open up minecraft.jar from AppData\.minecraft\bin
    Delete META-INF folder completely
Throw the .CLASS files from the ModLoader .rar into the .jar file

And then, once that actually works, throw the X-Ray mod files into the .jar file as well.

Sounds right... are you using 7Zip or WinRAR? I had some problems not black screening w/ 7Zip so I switched to Winrar. Try that,

I've actually been using a tool called Power Archiver, because it supports a lot of weird file types, as my default for a while.

I dunno what I did different, but I fiddled with it a bunch, and now it seems to work. Thanks for your time, Physcadelic.
