Newbie needs help

Hello, I'm nothing more the clueless about C++, just downloaded Dev C++ compiler thingy and found a few websites showing you the very basics like the "hello world" program, anyways once I type in the code, I compile it and run it a boc flashes up and its gone within 1/4 of a second. Isnt something surpossed to happen like a box pop up or something? I'm determind to learn from just books and the internet. Please help lol

**EDIT** Also when I try to open a .dll file for example using Dev-C++ it opens the dll file but just displays the same symbols as notepad would. How do I get it to display the code so I can edit it

Is it a black thing ?? If it is it's probably the Command console.
You could solve this by opening in CMD (Start --> run --> cmd)
