Guys, we're discussing why borders aren't see as much anymore. Personally, I think it's a fad.

It's not a fad it's more of a skill level technique. Obv when you get better you want to make your work seem like it fits together and is part of a larger image so you're not gonna throw borders on it and ruin that feeling. Less skilled people tend to just throw borders on everything as a way of presenting their work, finishing it off.

Well, I think it depends on the type of art your making, because as Ryguy said, it cuts off the picture, leaving less space for imagination, although if you want fine cut art, then I guess you could use borders

Of course not everything needs a border, and of course you're not going to just throw them on. I'm only asking why people don't use them anymore. I understand that at times a border can completely ruin the piece, but I'm just wondering why people don't even try to use them anymore.

Borders are boring anyways. I've never seen a tag where it looks better with a border unless the border was the centrepiece like in some of Ookamis tags.
