I looked around for this, but couldn't find it anywhere. (Not even in the rules.)

But, what is the criteria on when you get your "post bans"?

I've seen a few people get them since I've been here and am wondering if they're mandatory and when I should expect them.

They're mandatory now -- they weren't for a while but Dave made them something you need to do again. You should make a thread in General for your post ban at 1,337, and then on 2,000, 3,000, 4,000 and so on until 13,337, then 14,000 and all that. There is no 1,000 post ban.
