problem with photoshop

will someone PLEASE tell me why everything to do with layers is always grayed out!
i want to use some of the PS filters but w/o control over layers how can you do anything
i always work in many many layers
need some help so respond ppl

oh and is there a "click normally" tool? like so i can do the all important but mysteriously always grayed out copy and paste?

it could be the layer, your settings, some random shit that's unknown .-.

go under windows on the top of your screen and click on layers - try that

i already have that on and as you can now see..... its grayed out also
oh and ive got the gimps on because for ost c4ds and some renders it gives me

"coulld not complete your request becuase the file-format module can not parse the file"
and becuase i mostly work in gimp im using PS just for the filters

i know, that might be the problem but i tried forever to find a way to unlock layers, because they start locked

This is why I hated CS4, I had too any problems with it..
Try using CS3, works really well and is simpler.
