It works for me.
Write:

90 90 90 90 90   to   0x0054F8F9 to turn it on.
E8 E2 61 F2 FF   to    Same addresss above to turn it off.

You could use Cheat Engine.
And use the Memory View there

Thx for explaining @GhostHax
But for the record, IW5M resets the values every now and then so it's best to freeze the values(Press Space when the address is hilighted)
Also im not sure about the protection of it and if they barred write access in which cause you'll need to make the page writable.
Here's a little tutorial:

 

First we open iw5mp.dat and select "Memory View".


Then we check if the page is writable...


As an example I'll show you how to make the page writable if it isn't.


Lastly we apply the patch to avoid recoil...

IW5M's aCI makes it much harder to use no recoil.
