There is world of difference between feeling unstoppable and being well-funded. Unless there is a huge technology rift between opposing forces, by huge I mean sticks and stones vs firearms, no army should feel unstoppable.

Sheer numbers account for nothing if the individuals comprising that whole are not well trained, not to say that the US Army is. Although the US Army may be large, if not utilised correctly, can still fall to a smaller army if that army is strategic in their attack and defence.
