ok well thats a pretty good air cooler so you should be able too OC without any fear of overheating. now just check around your bios until you find your cpu multiplier. when you have found this you can try increasing it to about 42x and leaving the voltage on auto. before you start oc'ing go download hwmonitor and Prime95. When you are done in the bios save the settings and reboot. Now run prime95 for atleast a hour while checking the cpu temp with hwmonitor. if you need more tips add my skype bjorn.saf

Have you considered using the MB's OC tool? Most of them come with it, and is perfectly fine for 10-20% OC's. BIOS OC is usually for much much higher OC's that require tweaking of voltages and even tweaking parts of your RAM as well.

Because thats how you are really supposed to do it. Like I said, when you OC with your BIOS, you are usually looking to push much faster speeds than would be normally recommended. With OC tuning tools, you will be getting good overclocks, without having to learn all of what they just did. Because pretty much everything they did was fairly important given the amount they overclocked with it.

There was an option for “load optimal overclocking settings“ and I put it to 4.2 GhZ settings, saved and rebooted.

    Coretemp:

Went from 11 seconds to 9 seconds when calculating 1M digits with Super Pi.

Wondering if it's actually overclocked though :/

Is it safe to overclock my PC? Can I go even higher? I'm a n00b at overclocking

4.2 isnt a extreme overclock so i wouldnt expect a huge change. If you are looking for a huge performance upgrade OC'ing isn't it. most people OC just because they can and to push there hardware to the limit

I could go up to like 5.2 I believe, would that hurt me?
Also, I noticed my Voltage didnt really go up when running coretemp (VID), is this a problem?
I should go up to a max of 70C I've heard, 90C is too hot. I'm currently running like 35ish.

try staying below 60 so you have some overhead room. if you can run prime for half a hour without your pc getting a BSOD your Vcore is absolutely fine

Prime95 tests are usually best suited for many hours or more. Usually I run them for a 5 hour minimum. Overnight is usually recommended.

yeah i know but if he is just testing its kinda boring to only be able to only test 2 overclocks a day so i advise him to run a short test to test general stability and when he finds his limit run a test for a night and if it gives errors or a bsod he can step it down a little.
