It really depends on what you want and what type of situation you live in.

If you like to run and swim, get a Labrador or golden retriever. There are so many dog breeds though!

If you can't stand shedding hair, try and find a "Labradoodle" which is a mixed breed between a ladrador retriever and a poodle. They're fluffy, but don't shed! Anyone who's allergic to dogs can be around them too!

If you live somewhere hot, get a short hair dog, because long haired dogs will be miserable and it's not fair to you or them.

If you know what your budget is, look around your area for what you might think you want.
