I agree that it's a great value, and won't hesitate to play it, but they could have just floored Microsoft had they done it.

It's a worthy sacrifice. It's $100 cheaper than the Xbone, but I doubt they're getting as big of a profit margin as they'd like, so they're "subsidising" the cost with PSN+ (at least that's my rationale). Most people want to play online so they're going to get bucketloads of money every month until they surpass their break even point. I wouldn't be surprised if in a couple years time they make multiplayer free again, PSN+ was worth the cost even before it was a requirement so once they get the profits they need and reduce the manufacturing costs they can offer some goodwill by releasing multiplayer free of charge and likely retain most subscribers because of all the goodies they hand out.

After PS sees how much money they are receiving due to paid service, trust me, they won't make it free again, but who knows, PS is great; maybe they will.
+ for the people rubbing it in our face that you have to pay for PSN, they don't know that on top of that you get exclusive content, auto-updates, and all that jazz with it unlike Xbox Live where you just get online capabilities.
