intel HD grafics 4000 force dedicated

hello, I didn't know where I had to put this post....
(Im using a mac mini 2011 with 8gb RAM so 512mb VRAM)

so the problem is my graphics card uses the integrated VRAM while the dedicated is larger (particularly for minecraft ftb who it doesnt recognizes as a game).

so does anyone know how to force it to use your dedicated VRAM (maybe expanding that also)

I've searched all over the net so this is my last call, please help

EDIT: intel HD grafics 3000 video card

VRAM and RAM have entirely different purposes, and are contained within completely separate parts of your system, that is if they are indeed separate. For most graphics cards, the RAM is contained within the card itself, but on some lower end laptops, it will be shared. Yours apparently uses the pre-installed VRAM, as with most systems. To my knowledge, there's no way to share between the two, and my only suggestion would be to purchase a better graphics card, as 512mb seems to not meet your needs. I'd also advise against expanding your RAM as 8GB is more than sufficient for even the highest quality games, and larger quantities would only be needed for intensive rendering/video editing, which relies on heavy amounts of memory, but not visual as in GFX cards.

    well thank you for responding

but the dedicated VRAM is a part of the RAM that the videocard uses (so I actually have only 7,5 GB RAM) but my question was how to force an application to use the dedicated VRAM in stead of integrated VRAM on the videocard itself (wich is way smaller).

It seems you worded it a little confusingly. How much dedicated graphics memory do you have?

The problem lies in that you don't actually have a graphics card, Intel 4000 Graphics is actually integrated into your processor. I got confused because you're using the wrong terms. You're already using all of your dedicated VRAM, what you want to do is allocate more RAM specifically to Graphics, as you have quite a lot to spare. This can be easily be done in Windows BIOS, though you're running Mac.

Nevermind, I'd advise against it for average users.

I was going to say that you could use Open Firmware, but it's pretty complicated, and has the possibility of screwing your computer up.

so any other options (but I also have to update the firmware (normally with a system update it would be done but you never know.)
