"Failed to download version.ini" error

So I haven't played CrossFire in a really long time, but I want to play it again. When I started the game, it said to install the newest version, and I already had lots of trouble there. For some reason I couldn't open Crossfire_NA.exe (the downloader) and I had an error when i tried to download from cnet. I finally found a Setup file somewhere from which I got the game, although I'm not even sure if it's the latest version.
But now that I have the game installed, I always have lots of trouble launching the game. I start the launcher, click Start Game and nothing pops up. Absolutely nothing. And after 3-5 mins, I get a popup saying "Failed to download version.ini".
So, in search for a fix, I noticed that my version.ini file was empty. There was no text in it. So I guessed the solution for my problem would be getting the right file... Can someone upload this file onto the thread? I'll give you feedback afterwards saying if it worked or not.

Crap, now I can't download the game... I still have the downloader problem and I can't download the Setup file i downloaded before...

Oh god, whenever i launch the game it erases the text from version.ini... Why can't I open the downloader from Z8Games?? :'( I think i'll be over there in the corner, just... erm... right.

Go to ur C:\Program Files (x86)\Z8Games\CrossFire\version.ini

-Open it
-Ctrl+A and delete all info
-Put this info

MinimalVersion= 1120
OwnVersion = 6

-Open it
-Ctrl+A and delete all info

That's what I just did, but the moment I press Start Game it removes the Read Only option and it erases all the text inside the file...

Already tried it, the same thing happens. The text on the file just vanishes and the Read Only option is unmarked.

Got that same problem on my windows 8 laptop when i start cf_patcher it stucks and nothing loads after some mins it says failed to download WTH! >.<

Thanks a lot to all of you who tried to help me, but I've tried everything I could and it still didn't work. I think i'll have to settle with my CF EU... I'm gonna keep searching for the original installer somewhere, since I can't open the damn downloader, but I guess I better look somewhere else, because it's a file way too big to upload here and external links are illegal. I guess this thread can be closed, unless someone has relevant help to offer...
