With the infamous M.I.P.S we can easily hack games like sm64 or Legend of zelda. (Both of which are multiplayer online to an extent). And it's would increase the community surrounding these type of games being hacked, I suppose it would fall into a Netplay section of some sort for non-online online games?
What is MIPS and why does it further justify my reasoning for this? MIPS is a RISC CPU and stands for “Microprocessor without Interlocked Pipeline Stages”
For usually, processors are processing commands in some steps through a pipeline, so it can have several opcodes in different steps of handling coincident in the processor. If a subsequent opcode is instructed to a preceding opcode, the opcode will eventually have to be interrupted until it is available. And this will be reached through “Locks”. So, in summary, a pipeline lock does interrupt subsequent opcode that is instructed to a preceding opcode. This will stay until it's available. And MIPS is a CPU, that DENIES those pipeline locks. So, instead of using pipeline locks, the MIPS processor wants corresponding action from the programmer or the compiler like sorting or adding a NOP opcode. (NOP means No Operation. Simply: An opcode, that does nothing.) This allows the developers to keep the architecture simple. That's what I personally “party” as my “favorite” point of MIPS. Without this simplicity, SM64 Hacking would be even harder than imagined. Believe me, hacking SM64 is far easier than hacking other games with complex instructions aka CISC CPUs. So, you can be sure, MIPS is far easier to learn than any other CPUs. It might be confusing at the beginning for you, but the more you work with it, you will know that intuitive.
