But whoever transgresses after that will have a painful punishment."
You can retaliate if someone has killed your brother or what ever kill who killed him (the salve for the slave and the free for the free and the female for the female) and do not transgress . Isn't it peaceful ? I see it peaceful more than enough. even do not transgress proves it.

If they had been apart [from them], We would have punished those who disbelieved among them with painful punishment When those who disbelieved had put into their hearts chauvinism - the chauvinism of the time of ignorance.
