We all know piracy is deemed as a bad thing, but some people say different. "I'm downloading this just to 'test' it." And so on. What's your view on piracy?

Well for everything except games, it really is wrong to download it. However I'm not against it, as it really isn't too big of a problem for most industries that make such incredible profits off of relatively low-cost actions.
Games on the other hand I feel don't have enough "demo's" nowadays, reviews can't be trusted, and a LOT of games are overpriced for the content provided.
Just-to-try it is an excuse honestly, but considering all the games I've personally been dissapointed with and returned/rented, I can understand the mentality.
Piracy is my guilty pleasure; every time I download yet another piece of software etc. I didn't pay for, its like I'm making a horcrux for myself. The pain in my chest! No doubt I will leave a little something for each and every one of those devs and publishers in my will; but until then... Gah its free why the hell not?

Piracy is pretty controversial. Music for example: I don't use Cd's as i have an iPod, so it is much easier to download on my ipod(pirated or not). If i really like an artist, i'll buy something of theirs only to support them.
Piracy when it comes to games is reasonable, like Empire said, there aren't an abundance of Demo's anymore, and I can recall countless times I've bought a game just to try it out only to return it a few days later. Other than that the circumstances are various.

On certain things like for example; expensive software ($500+) or video games. I feel it's all right when your downloading TV shows, anime and the similar though.
In terms of gaming, i think piracy is compelling certain publishers to reduce the pricing of games. It is ridiculous that games still retain their $60 price tag. It was only that high because games used to be sold in cartilage; the price of production and storage is understandable. But now with digital download, there is no reason for the games to maintain the price tag.
I tend to Pirate music, TV shows/movies and software.... Alot of music, Have around 20gb on my PC....
Music is pretty much screwed when it comes to piracy. There will always be somebody somewhere in the world that doesn't want to pay for it. I saw once a guy made a song and pretty much offered it for free, and said "if you want to donate then feel free, it cost a lot to make it", and I think he probably was liked more for it, and actually got quite a lot of donations.
I agree with the rest. Games, are ridiculous at their price so yeah. Movies, I feel that is wrong I mean not all wrong but there is some aspect to it that is wrong. TV shows is FINE I mean IT'S FREE on TV what if you LOVE the episode or MISSED it how else can you watch it? (unless the TV Show has some website where you can watch all episodes) other than that.. it's wrong. Songs I feel are definitely wrong to pirate it's usually $1 to $2 on iTunes for a song.. and you keep it forever not some kind of cheap rental... but yeah my view.
I think its kinda ok
Piracy is bad, but most of the shit isn't even worth the price... And if I was to buy something, I don't want the money going to some administrative fee...
