os x mavericks help with mac

So I have a friend that stole a Macbook I want to restore it and I'm about to finish it but its asking for me to login with an account that has purchased "OS X Mavericks". How do I get my apple ID to have it even though it's free but I cant seem to buy it. how can I get it?

I'm not sure and I don't even know how long ago it was stolen which kinda makes me nervous about it now since that "Find my Macbook" went off early today. But I didn't even know he stole it I just thought he had it. He asked if I wanted to buy it so I did and I bought a 2010 Macbook for $450.

Yeah I already know so I asked him for my refund just a moment ago and he was cool with it and understood so I just gave it back like 5 minutes ago cause I don't want to deal with the trouble any time soon. So much for a nice $400 MacBook.

Haha yeah but it's cool since he completely understood why and even at that me and him have been friends for a while now.

As long as it is not updated or anything, I am pretty sure it wont use the Find my Macbook thing. You would need to update the fucker.

Anyhow, even if it was traced, as long as you tell them it was sold to you, you really cannot get in trouble. In the meantime however, I will see what I can do to help. Lemme dig up my Macbook and see what I remember about fucking with the OS.
