Most free to play games you have to pay for ingame items.
seriously now we are in 2014 and the most "developed" games are pay to play. take an example of world of warcraft, i would spend some money to buy it but i refuse to pay monthly 12 euro + the new expansions that cost around 30-40? Anyway you pay for world of warcraft and you enjoy ALL of its features..no blocked char slots or money that require to donate so you can unlock them. I recently started downloading star wars online and by the time i checked the free features i canceled my download and deleted the game from my computer. i also played lord of the rings online and i have to tell it has more expansions than world of warcraft and almost everything is locked.
to sum up:
Pay to play:
+ Enjoy all features which means no restrictions
+since its pay to play its more developed so you can do much much stuff
Cons:
-Pay a monthly fee + the expansions
Free to play:
+ Its Free
+more people than a game which you pay monthly
+ tons of free games
Cons:
- lack of support since its free (most companys, if you donate you get a full support unfair and shit)
-Restrictions
thanks for reading this =) i wrote this thread while watching skyrim online and saw this: The Elder Scrolls Online will cost $14.99 monthly and that there won't fee forever. so most of the people will wait till its completely pay one time and play forever like guild wars 2.

For a poor man like me, I turn to free to play games.
Of course i end up paying money anyways for example i spent $100+ on LOL and $80+ on crossfire.
The upside is, you're not FORCED to pay. That's the reason I play f2p games.

Pay to Play. I have always been "Down with the sickness" when it comes to P2P games.
Final Fantasy XI was the first Game I paid for monthly. Now I pay for FF14 Monthly.
What's wrong with paying for something better?
there's nothing left for you here.

Free2Play is just a marketing term, it means if the retail price of a game is 60$, we're gonna make you pay twice that amount if you want to actually enjoy playing our game a bit. Otherwise it's one level below demo. So nty, I'd rather pay the retail price.

I used t play f2p games all the times, but too many hackers and you end up spending more money, then buying a p2p game.

Hey.
I mainly play Free to Play games because I don't have that much money right now. However, F2P games must make money somehow and in most cases, this is by people buying OP weapons using real money.
I prefer Pay to Play games because they are usually developed at a higher standard. Additionally, in the majority of cases, there are no additional extras that can be bought to give a ridiculous advantage to people who have little money.

There are some GREAT free to play games, that if you put a low amount($20) you can get great, non-pay2win-stuff.
League, smite, Loadout, TF2, Warframe. All great games and all free.
However, Pay 2 Play is a better business model, even if its a five to ten bucks. Why?
1. No hackers. If you have to pay every time you get banned and there is less profit from it, most people won't bother making or using hacks.
-Exceptions: MMORPG's, because exploitation can get you some serious money.
2. Less microtransactions and no need for them. They can get COSTLY, especially for people trying to save hundreds of hours of free time by just buying the items needed.
3. Better gameplay, better incentive. You have a good product people will play it. You have a good game, people will buy it. Makes incentives so that people don't put out shit games like "war z" or "gary's incedent" or "guise of the wolf" and they actually lose profit due to making shitty games.
4. More original ideas. Very few F2P ever come up with an original idea. If anything they constantly copy working models. Free MMORPG's are so boring, free fps are basically ALL counterstrike clones, Free fighting games? Shitty balance. Free RPG's plagued with microtransactions.
