Modifying game files (doing it right?)

The server is checking ClientFiles.xml if it's the same as the one on the server, then the game uses ClientFiles.xml to check the files of the games. Right?

But I can't really get the CRC to stay, when I modify the time stamp it's giving the file a new CRC. Does anyone know how to find a time stamp using a hex editor? Also, I don't mind if it's client sided or it will display the weapon blank since the name of the assets aren't the same as the original file. All I care about is making it go through file check.

Am I thinking right?
