    Australia VS. USA

USA: War, Poverty, Powerful Enemies, Gangstas, Crime, Murders

Aus: No War, Chance 4 everyone, No Gangstas, No Murders, Low Crime Rate.

Australia was created from a penal colony, therefore the background of Australia was created by criminals and settlers.

It also commit a crime such as 'genocide'

The Stolen Generations (also Stolen children) is a term used to describe those children of Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander descent who were removed from their families by the Australian Federal and State government agencies and church missions, under acts of their respective parliaments.[1][2] The removals occurred in the period between approximately 1869[3] and 1969,[4][5] although in some places children were still being taken in the 1970s.[6]

The extent of the removal of children, and the reasoning behind their removal, are contested. Documentary evidence, such as newspaper articles and reports to parliamentary committees, suggest a range of rationales. Motivations evident include child protection, beliefs that given their catastrophic population decline after white contact that black people would "die out",[7] fears of miscegenation and a desire to attain white racial purity.[8] Terms such as "stolen" were used in the context of taking children from their families – the Hon P. McGarry, a member of the Parliament of New South Wales, objected to the Aborigines Protection Amending Act 1915 which then enabled the Aborigines' Protection Board to remove Aboriginal children from their parents without having to establish that they were in any way neglected or mistreated; McGarry described the policy as "steal[ing] the child away from its parents".[9] In 1924,[10] in the Adelaide Sun an article stated "The word 'stole' may sound a bit far-fetched but by the time we have told the story of the heart-broken Aboriginal mother we are sure the word will not be considered out of place."[11][12]

I'm sure you're not understanding my point of the post, I posted that because the thread creator stated no murder or much crimes in Australia and yet I proved him wrong, I have nothing against Australia just showing proof, I don't pick America or Australia I pick Israel, my homeland. America have committed crimes as well but you must understand that the population is over 300 million. Therefore have a much higher crime rate.

The current crime conditions in Australia vary from low threat in rural and smaller communities to more serious and somewhat dangerous threat in major metropolitan areas. Australia's urban crime rate is on a par with most large cities in the U.S. Residential burglaries are common throughout Australia and are among the most likely crimes encountered by Australians and foreign residents alike. Some burglars can, at times, be confrontational if they enter an occupied residence. Armed robberies have been reported in the Canberra area as well as throughout Australia. In these cases, the weapon of choice is usually a knife. Although firearms are sometimes used, they are the exception rather than the rule. Australia has extremely restrictive firearms legislation and the purchase, licensing and storage of a firearm is very difficult when compared to U.S. standards. Local police have attributed a majority of these burglaries and robberies to the growing problem with heroin and metha***etamine (ICE) addiction.

Vehicle theft is fairly low throughout the country. However, evidence suggests that vehicle theft in the capital Canberra has risen 20 percent over the last 12 to 24 months. Police attribute this rise to numerous high-cost vehicles driven by well-off Canberra residents.

Violent crime in Australia is low, with under 100 reported cases of armed robbery, homicide or sexual assault per 100,000 persons nationally. Basic assault statistics are higher, with approximately 700 cases per 100,000 persons. Most of these are attributed to fighting and alcohol related incidents. Travelers should exercise the same level of caution and security awareness as they would in any major city in the U.S.

Basic safety on Australian roads is considered to be excellent. Road conditions are first rate in the major cities and speeding laws are enforced via an elaborate system of cameras. Holiday weekends typically see a rise in roadside fatalities as most Australians drive long distances to popular beach destinations. Public transportation is generally very safe and is the preferred choice of residents in Sydney and Melbourne. Taxis are safe but occasionally difficult to find. They operate on a reservation basis and will not ordinarily respond to impromptu calls or waves/signals.

    Political Violence

The potential for political violence in Australia is low. There are numerous ethnic and religious groups, and representatives from worldwide environmental organizations resident in Australia. These groups have demonstrated the ability to mobilize and conduct peaceful protests when they deem it appropriate. The American Embassy in Canberra and consulates in Sydney, Melbourne, and Perth have been subjected to peaceful demonstrations by these groups over the last few years, mainly inspired by recent U.S./Australia military actions or U.S. foreign policy decisions. Visits by high level U.S. dignitaries also attract these issue-motivated groups.

There is a sizable Middle Eastern immigrant population (170,000), which is primarily centered in the southern suburbs of Sydney, and to a lesser extent in Melbourne, Brisbane, and Perth. In late 2005, a large scale riot occurred in the Cronulla beach area between these Middle Eastern "gangs" and Aussie pride/white supremacist groups. The initial police response was slow and lacked decisiveness, leading to increased violence. However, a recent police presence in the area, along with a grass roots level campaign to engage the community has led to a lessening in tensions.

    Post-specific Concerns

    Terrorism

In order to address the threat of terrorism, over the last few years the Australian government has mirrored many of the enhanced security measures used in the U.S. Some of the introduced measures include: a national threat rating system, the issuance of travel warnings to Australians when traveling overseas, and the establishment of a "Sky Marshal" program. The Australian Federal Police and other intelligence/security agencies have increased staffing, resources, and capacity for fighting terrorism. The 2005 Bali terrorist bombings, like the ones in 2002, targeted western resort areas frequented by Australians. Moreover, the fight against terrorism struck closer to home with the 2005 and 2006 arrest of over 20 suspected terrorists in Sydney and in Melbourne. In September 2008, the Melbourne Supreme Court found seven of these terrorists guilty and four others not-guilty. One other suspect is to be re-tried during the second half of 2009. The police and security services continue to investigate possible linkages to other terrorist networks.

Some terrorist groups maintain a presence in Australia, including Jemaah Islamiya, Hizballah, Lashkar-e-Tayyiba, LTTE and several Sunni and Shia groups. To date, the presence of these groups has been primarily for support, finance and propaganda activities centered mainly in Sydney and Melbourne. The Australian government has put out several public service advertisements requesting citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities. The Australian law enforcement community has additionally implemented a National Security hot-line for the public to report suspicious activity. That number is 1-800-123400.

    Bushfires

The last few years have shown the devastation bushfires can produce. In February of 2009, fires raged across the Australian state of Victoria, resulting in Australia's highest ever loss of life from a bushfire. During 2006, in the Victoria countryside outside Melbourne, bushfires consumed thousands of hectares and damage was in the hundreds of millions of dollars (USD). In 2003, bushfires within the Australian Capital Territory claimed approximately 500 homes and several lives. Anyone planning on residing in Australia should devise a bushfire plan of action. The Australian government has set up a bushfire help-line at 132281 and website located at Canberra Connect - Home.

    Police Response

Australian police organizations are well trained and professional. In comparison to most major police jurisdictions in the United States, the Australian police organizations are limited in some resources and personnel. This is evidenced by very limited vehicle patrols and average response times in incidents such as residential burglaries. However, Australian police have demonstrated the ability to respond to major incidents in force. They have well-equipped emergency response teams, such as the Specialist Response & Security (SRS) unit, that can mobilize and respond to any incident with short notice. The SRS unit was present at a recent peaceful demonstration at U.S. Embassy Canberra. The Australian equivalent to the U.S. 911 is 000. This number can be dialed for any emergency situation in Australia.

    Medical Emergencies

Australia provides high level professional emergency medical services. By dialing 000, any person can obtain emergency medical assistance throughout most of Australia. Ambulance service staffed by certified emergency medical technicians is the norm throughout most of Australia. Medical evacuation via air is used in remote areas as well as urban areas depending on the degree of injury.

    Crime Avoidance

Generally, Americans tend to blend in with the general population in Australia. Exercising sound judgment and common sense will safeguard most travelers from becoming victims of crime while in Australia. Property crime, to include vehicle thefts, pickpocketing/muggings and residential burglaries, is more prevalent in certain parts of major cities within Australia. By securing vehicles and removing valuables from within plain view, crimes relating to vehicles can be minimized. The chance of being a victim of residential burglaries can be reduced by having an alarm system and utilizing locking devices on windows and doors, along with motion detection lighting. In cities, remain in groups when walking and stick to the major tourist areas.

In Australia crimes is often lower then other parts of the world, while higher in cities like in the US, you don't often have to worry about crime.
