I control what happens to the paper, it doesn't control what happens to me.

The human race is more and more dependent on simply spending money to achieve/obtain things in general. The only pleasure that remains is the constant need for something to be obtained by us, whereas before the pleasure was in the making of your own things, the growing of your own food. There's no longer anything like this. I say this because I recently had a graphics class where we made our own hardback sketchbooks. We trimmed a big sheet of white paper, folded, trimmed again, sowed together, cut up sheets of hardback card into appropriate dimensions, got suede cloths to put around it and then glued it and finalized it. It took us 3 hours for a simple book with 10 pages in it, but it's so much more satisfying than having bought a 'nice' and 'high quality' sketchpad or whatever.
I did this just yesterday, and I've not felt anything like this since I was tiny little kid who would make things for his mother or his relatives, or just make things overall and have pride in it, no matter how good or how shit it was. Back then I didn't care about money, no one did - the concept of money is forced onto us in such a twisted way once we start growing up.
Of course it's also inevitable. It's why I highly admire the Amish for their enclosed little world. Their rules might be stupid from my perspective and they may be a bit over the top with somethings, but the purity of human life and the creation of things, equality and all around care for each other is a perfect example of what humans could be if money wasn't a factor.
