Highschool of the Dead - Pretty much every scene contains a large amount of blood and gore. Claymore (Kureimoa) - The entire series is about fighting monsters. Claymores go up against monsters -- and sometimes each other -- in nearly every episode, with plenty of maiming, dismemberment, beheading, and lots and lots of blood, both purple and red (and everyone has *extremely* high blood pressure).
Do those also have action? GRZ had one of the saddest ending i've seen, poor Yomi :|
