[Help] Updating Pointers

Hello, I would like some knowledge on how to update pointers from say v62 to v83 (or from any version to another for that matter).
I already know how to do that other thing like Damage hack (something that actually shows the address, followed by a double, 2bit or 4bit etc), rather than just ticking a <script> on/off. But what I wanna learn how to do is update those with pointers on them, for example CharX, CharY and map ID from v62. Let's say I'm not some super genius like Blitz himself at doing these things and am a super nooby who only knows things like finding the AoB and that's the only way I know how to update things. Would it be possible for me to update these on my own? If so, how? Any help please and thanks
