When I started doing it I would just try and get many small intervals over an hour to try and go for longer than if I did it all at once. Also theres a muscle or something in your leg that handles all the force on your knees when you land from a jump. Since your not often landing from a jump on the daily it was really killing me the next day when I had been jumping rope and landing all those times.

Maybe start without rope and focus on jumbping properly. We use to do it in school for PE

UPDATE - it has been a about a week and i can see the improvement in myself and my body..
Keep your knees bent a little! Don't keep them locked straight.
