For college I'm looking for a laptop that is able to run casual games (Fortnite, Rocket League, CS:GO) meanwhile maintaining a longer battery life for long research and writing sessions. Nothing larger than 15.6 inches either. Any suggestions?

Unless you made out of money, don't even bother getting a gaming laptop overpriced and shit. More affordable and reasonable would be to get a $500 gaming desktop pc. I bought one for around $500 and all is going well. Came with a gtx 1060 ti 3gb too.
you should go for a gaming pc, its cheaper
I can't recomend the dell g7 enough for what you are looking for have 2 of them one for me and the wife. Its light for a ganing laptop has great battery life while not gaming of course and cam be found on sale for around 900 at times.
Most gaming laptops that can run games at a high standard are going to cost a premium and are typically not worth it
Just look for a refurbished laptop which comes with a Nvidia videocard, you can find some of them from Amazon warehouse..
my friend has one of theese, google it "Dell Inspiron 15.6" - Intel Core i5 - 8GB 2400MHz DDR4 - 1 TB 5400 RPM HDD - Intel HD graphics 620 - i3567-5149BLK"
Its around 500$ which isnt too bad and run csgo , fortnite pretty damn smooth.
Well, if you need laptop just for games, You need a middle-laptop. But if you will do something specific (Like 3D, for example), you should find more professional decision
Anything that has Nvidia 990+, 8gb ram, an ssd, and a i7 in it. Chose the one that costs less.
Notebook are good if you are not looking for extreme graphics experience. If you are, you better go for a desktop then.

I picked up the evoo 1650 as a refurb for just over $600. Except for a couple hiccups during startup, I am impressed so far. Just wish it had a bigger battery.
Dell G3 is the best gaming laptop.
Asus ROG Zephyrus G15. The best gaming laptop.
I usually look at some reviews and do comparisons of performance for a few laptops i find, then pick the best performing one of them.
This is a old thread but it might be useful for someone else that's also looking to buy a new laptop.
