This tut will (hopefully) teach you all how to make a realistic-looking Liquid Texture (Great for using in backgrounds)
Step 1. Start with a blank (Transparent) sig template (330x110 works well).
Step 2. Select the foreground and background colors (One can change the colors involved to portray various liquids. Since I am morbid, i designed this tut to make a blood-like fluid.) Set the foreground color to #EA0000, and set the Background color to #C10000.
Step 3. Using your Gradient tool, make a straight linear gradient from top to bottom. Make sure that the darker portion of the gradient is towards the bottom.
Step 4. Select Filter/Noise/Scatter RGB. Select Independent Noise, and set all values except "Alpha" to .20. Leave Alpha at 0.00.
Step 5. Select Filter/Blur/Motion Blur. Select 'Linear' mode, set the length to 10 and the angle as 0. now you should have what looks slightly like the Brushed Metal Effect.
Step 6. Go to Filter/Lighting Effects/Lighting Effect. Set the Lighting mode of Light 1 to "Point", set the intensity to 1.00, and change the color of it to #FFFFFF. In the Interactive Window, grab the blue dot, and drag it to the top-center portion of the preview.
Step 7. Still in the Lighting Effect Window, Select the Bump-mapping tab. Check the "Enable Bump-Mapping" box, leave the map setting as is, and change the maximum bump-height to suit your tastes (I left mine at the default setting)
Step 8. Click "ok".
You should now have a background that looks somewhat like the surface of a puddle of blood. If you are one of the very few people that actually use GIMP, feel free to post your results. Questions and Comments are Welcomed.
