Run_Cat!
This was actually kind of fun... animating a sprite. Of course I got this right out of the book, and I could do more with it, but I'm more interested in getting to the D3Dstuff, after all I'm learning this so I can understand DirectX enough to make hacks like chams and such, but hell maybe I might make a 2D game someday in my free time. There's so much you can do, but it takes a lot of time to just code all this crap... even the little stuff.

Say I wanted the cat to go through the right side of the screen instead of just warping the whole image... I would have to create a second animated cat and swap it with the other cat o_O! There's a lot of specific crap to game programming. Don't get me wrong I don't want to short cut myself, but at the same time I'm really not that interested in gaming... so I'll just conceptualize how to do these things rather then typing out actual code. I want to get this crap as quickly as possible so I can get to the cool stuff like ASM and reversing. This whole windows thing is just a little to abstract to me. I feel like I'm learning a lot, but I'm also losing touch with what code is... anyway you guys didn't ask for a life story. Here is my damn CatRunning program o_O?!

I like it!

How long have you been coding, why?

Technically I've "been coding" for 2 1/2 years, but I only started C++ 3 months ago. And this is the first time I've coded outside of the classroom.
Wow amazing man can u make it like higher resolution maybe give it a background or something but great work dude keep it up.
hmm must admit that was pretty cool. I'm kinda interested in game programming, i think. Maybe more the game engine aspect/ Physics engine. Hmm actually i wanna make a physics engine now.... I'll See. I can't imagine it being simple, but maybe when i become more advanced in programming i can use it as a direct application of my Knowledge (though also limited) of physics.

What I really would like to understand is how 3D models and stuff from a mathematical standpoint. There's no way it can calculate every point like in 2D I think it just creates a bunch of polygons and alters them according to their oreintation. But I think it would be really fun to see how it all works and still remains fast enough to be rendered without some huge lag time.

I could change some stuff in it, in fact I could probably at this point make a whole lil 2D game, but I'll pass. Got to get t 3D game programming, then maybe I'll come back sometime later on. Oh and thanks Smokey :P

add a mouse and let the cat chase it

Lol. Just move your mouse around on the screen and you can pretend the cat is chasing it

I did add a background however. This is actually pretty easy. I can add a bunch of other stuff if I wanted too. Still need to figure out how to do transparency though =/

BTW: Hit escape to quit out.

The cat is surrounded in dark matter when he runs through the map o.o

Well Im using Surfaces right now, so I can perform real transparency, Once I start using textures however I can get rid of the background collor and make it truly transparent. What I really am looking forward to is the chapter on collision detection. I mean I can probably figure it out right now, but there is most likely a better way to do it, anyway why spend time learning something on my own if the chapter explains it better and faster. That's why I bought the book :P
d3d9_42.dll missing

is that my fault or yours?

Happening to me, too.
Lol. You guys need to install DirectX.
