Most executable files are encrypted/protected/obfuscated to prevent tampering and reverse-engineering of the file. You can possibly look for a keylogger or RAT codes in the file by de-obfuscate the file and look up the codes, which is very hard. Unless they're using a public obfuscator, just find the right tools.
