List Anti-Virus that detect rats or other types of viruses.
I'm not sure i been using Avast and SUPERAntiSpyware for years.
I've been using malewarebytes for over a year and it's pretty good (especially premium). I wouldn't say it's the best AV out there but it's good at detecting anything already on your pc. For preventing downloads of viruses just use your brain and don't download stuff that's likely to have viruses in it.
I don't know what rats are, but brooooooooo, you have to check Kaspersky out. It's the best Anti-Virus ever. (Although I had the paid for disc.) I still think it's great though....

There is nothing like "best antivirus ever", not even talking about how most of AV are..
Best way to detect or avoid rats are by yourself. Just think about what you are downloading and sometimes check your network traffic via packet sniffer.

Nothing really can be done when its FUD, its meant to be undetected by any know Anti-Virus and Anti-Malware.
I prefer ESET (Smart Security Premium), but if you really think you are infected the only real way to find out is to leave the machine off for a month or so and then make a Rescue disk with updated signatures, or do a reformat. But depending on what you have on your system isn't always a viable option.

If paid I'll go with Kapersky though its quite resource intensive the last time I used it (2 years ago), but it was awesome. There isn't really a perfect AV, but if someone isn't feeling safe and don't know how to go through the web... I guess besides having Windows defender, having a second layer of protection is always a good option, not optimal as stuff can always happen... but good
Hitman pro / Kaspersky ... but best anti virus is your common sense ... anything from "leaking" forums should be ran within virtual machine.
