    I'm going to be doing a build based on the i5 2500k and the gtx 570 soon. You might like something similar. I you do a custom build, I highly recommend getting the i5 2500k ($225). It overclocks easily to 4.8 ghz with good cooling, has about 25% better per-clock speeds than most i7s, and benchmarks higher than the $1000 990x in games. If you want to keep the total price under $1000, you should consider some cheaper graphics cards: hd 6870 from AMD, GTX 550, or GTX 560. To mimic my build, you would need to spend $1380. Let me know if you need links to all the parts for my build.

    @yodaliketaco
    If yours is going to be good for CA and decent web browsing please send me a notepad document with the parts on it so I can keep it safe.
    I'm getting a job soon with my cousin and he pays a bit over minimum wage (I'm fourteen so I can't get a job any better than that)
    Anyway I should have that much by summer if I work extra.

    Please send me a .txt (notepad) file with the parts your getting.
    Thanks + Rep for you my friend!

    ATI Radeon HD 5500 Series [M221NV (1920x1080@60Hz)/1GB ram]
    Intel Core 2 Duo E6400 @ 2.13GHz 139 °F
    Conroe 65nm Technology
    ConRoeXFire-eSATA2. (CPUSocket)

    For about 200 + parts from old computer.

    AMD Athlon x4 @ 3.9 GHz (overclocked)
    16 GB's of ddr3 ram
    HD Radeon 5750

    Don't even try to say that AMD cpus are better and more efficient than Intel's. Intel's older i7 cpus are almost 50% faster per-clock than the AMD cpus, and the Sandy Bridge cpu's are about 40% faster than the older i7s. With a $220 i5 2500k, you will be running well more than twice as fast as the best cpu made by AMD.

    AMD, does, however make good video cards. GTX 570 is much better for overclocking with a custom cooler than the equivalent HD 6970, but the 6870 and 6950 are good middle-end performance gpus. And, of course, the 6990 is ridiculous, but also $700.

    Indeed, but if you don't know shit it's out of the question.

    /me Built my last 4 computers, mostly out of old shitty parts I got for free. The one I'm using now is the first time I actually paid for parts.
