For this tutorial, sadly, no pictures, as I can't be assed to stop my prayer bot, as I could really use every single bit of XP.
Intro.
If you ask somebody how they made their cash, he probably won't say: "I've killed cows, and picked their cowhides up for at least 168 days, for 18 hours a day! z0mfg!"
No, they're most likely going to say that they A) made their cash by staking, or B) made their cash by merchanting. If you ask them what aspect of merchanting, they'll 7 out of 10 times say that they flip. (Other merchanting could be long-investment merchanting, dumping items like clans, shit like that).
The basics of flipping
What exactly is flipping?
It's easy.
Flipping is a branch of merchanting, in this case, a very short-investment type of merchanting.
When I say ''short-investment'', that means that people who are flipping, aren't wasting more than a couple of minutes per item.
But how exactly do you flip items?
For a starter, get a good cash pile. I suggest you should start with 5mill, as it will make things a bit easier.
Flipping: How-to
How to flip is actually very easy.
In this case, we're going to flip some imaginary rune kiteshields.
How do you start it?
Easy.
Just buy one, but make sure you mass-spam the +5% button, as you want it to buy at at least 300% over market price.
Let's buy one!
-Alright, I bought one for 35,800 GP.
Now we have to sell it.
So go to the window, sell it, and be sure to click the -5% button 10 times. Not more, not less.
Let's sell it!
-Alright, I sold one for 34,650.
And that's basically everything you need to flip.
What's so important about these numbers?
-Well, as flipping is a branch of merchanting, it means you want to buy it cheap, and sell it for a shit load of more cash.
But.. Why flipping differs from other merchanting techniques, is the fact that you don't need to get a 350k profit from each item, no, a small 2 - 5% per item will be enough.-

What's important about the numbers 35,800 and 34,650.
I'll tell you.
The 34,650 will be your BUYING price (eventually, just read on), and the 35,800 will be your SELLING price (eventually, carry on!).
Now what you're doing, is that you'll buy 10 imaginary Rune Kiteshields for [b]34,651[b]. Why did we add 1 GP to that? I'll tell you!
The 1 GP means that you've been given priority above anyone else, who is also flipping or just trying to get some items cheap. (I taught myself the basics of flipping, and whenever I need an item now, I always flip one of them, to get it as cheap as possible..)
-Bought 10? No? Well I did!.
Now I'm going to sell them for 35,799. Same story as I mentioned above, because of the 1 GP, you've been given priority to anybody else who's flipping.
Are there even any consequences to flipping?
Yes, yes there are.
Sometimes, you WILL annoy people, because you're taking priority over and over again. This means, that eventually somebody WILL try to fuck you up.
E.G. I'm flipping an Armadyl helmet, because I saw that it'll give me a nice 16k profit per helmet, which means I'll get 160k in no-time.
But, somebody else was flipping it also.. And we just made him mad! (
) And he is now fucking up the prices. How can he do that? Here's a quick and simple explanation.
-If you buy it for 2,400,000 , and selling it for 2,416,000 , all he has to do, is buy every helmet for 2,410,000 , and sell it for 2,410,500. This way, you just lost a bit of profit, which'll eventually lead you to
quit flipping for a couple of minutes. (Seconds, in my case. Been there, done that.)
Also, be sure not to go over a 2%-5% profit PER item. If you're flipping an item in which you'll gain a 25% profit, QUIT immediately.
(I flipped Armadyl helmets yesterday, 1,3mill profit per Helmet, 5 minutes after I bought 4 of them, I re-checked prices, and I made an awesome 250k loss per helmet.)
Other than that, there aren't any real consequences.
