They probably will find out, cause if the transactions went through and got approved, that means the credit card was probably not fake....

When I played Rumble Fighter, I got in-game money by using a credit card I found in the internet. Nothing happened to me since.

He downloaded around 15 movies in a day, (one of them was Inception) and he got a letter from his ISP two weeks later saying that they found him "torrenting copyrighted material" and they had a copyright complaint from Warner Bros. I think the reason why he got caught is because he was uploading one of them to this video site for distribution. No penalty at least, it was just a warning letter.
