I apologize if this is the wrong section to post this thread. I just reformatted my computer and I am looking to an anti virus program that can keep my pc as healthy as it can be for the longest period of time. I'm a complete noob that has been using stuff like norton AV for as long as I can remember and would appreciate some input from the savvy pros in this forum.

The thing about antivirus is that they all use different methods, and using two at a time is disruptive to system health.
I use a military grade AV on my server, but on my home computer, where I actually DO all my browsing and downloading, I remove viruses by hand using software such as winternals ERD Commander, WinPatrol, SpybotS&D, Unlocker, and other things. This keeps me from waiting on an update for a piece of software that's governed to do things "X" amount of ways. I can do anything I want with a virus once it's' on my system (with the right knowledge of course.)
Just faster, and more efficient, but that's my method.
The software that I recommend as a professional IN the computer industry is Kaspersky, Bit Defender, VIPRE and a few others, but those are the best.

If nothing else, use MS Security Essentials and other random file scans. Free isn't always the best choice, but free is always good.
