here at the university that I study, we have vacation in July(22 days), December(31 days), January(31 days) and early February(10~20 days).

It really varies from each district.

For example, i get off in like a month and i have a like 2 1/2 month summer vacation.

Most of American public schools are based off standards which is pretty much just information crammed down students throats then puked back up. There's no real learning go on where it can be useful or beneficial to the student's life. Rather than cramming useless facts, schools should be teaching students how to prepare for life such as how to find information when you need it, social skills, and the likes. There's no connection between the education the students receive and how they will use it later in life. Sure, there are a few classes that teach these skills but even so, these classes are also filled with standards that would not benefit the average student in any way.

The way the current school systems are set up is that only the people who understand the system are able to pass. What good is being able to take a standardized test while in your job, say a salesman or mechanic? The more legislation that's passed such as No Child Left Behind further creates fragmentation between the "smart" kids and the "dumb" kids. There are plenty of smart people who don't work within the system; they need creative outputs to be innovative rather than being shut in a classroom forced to learn about Abraham Lincoln.

This is why American schools are failing. Compared to other countries (mainly in Europe), they teach students how to be productive citizens rather than "Hey, I know about the War of 1812."
