If you do it right you can get exactly the same result, against any background texture, without adding the extra render pass.
As drigien said, that is a SS I posted a while ago. You can easily make it yourself, he just gave you a tutorial. Just make render pass one through wall with tfactor modulate tfactor for both color and alpha ops, and tfactor as the color you want, then render pass two do the same thing with the visible zbuffer and a different tfactor.
If you want to make a render pass that renders the characters and guns EXACTLY as they are supposed to be rendered, do the following.
Uncheck dynamic lighting.
Bleck op: no blend
Cull Mode: Counterclockwise
Zbuffertest: less (or, less or equal)
Zbuffer op: read/write
No alpha test
Fill mode: solid (obviously)
Stage 1: texture 1
Texture modulate diffuse for color and alpha.
If you do texture modulate texture you get an undesirable darker effect, just like the tens of solid versions released prior to my chams releases.
