Steam Link coming to mobile platforms



Steam Link, the application that serves games played via Steam to a connected television, is coming to mobile devices, Valve announced today.

A Steam Link app is due to launch May 21 for Android and iOS devices, Valve said. If these devices are connected to a 5 Ghz network (or wired by ethernet), users may play their full library of Steam games. The Steam Link app for mobile devices will support the Steam Controller, MFi controllers and other peripherals.

The same update will deliver the Steam Video app to both mobile platforms, letting users enjoy the library of shows and videos on their devices, too. The Steam Video — and Steam Link — app will allow users to enjoy the content in both streaming and offline modes.

Nvidia already has this technology, using cloud-computing and streaming

It's called GeForce Now, i tested the beta and its actually very impressive. there is slight input delay because you're playing games off a cloud-computer, but for console/casual users its almost unnoticeable

GeForce Now can basically turn any $200 laptop into a $1300 gaming pc, rendering the game at 1440p with 300fps and max settings. I tested it on Overwatch, For Honor, Tomb Raider, and Destiny 2, pretty cool stuff and it will be available free to the public I believe

So this is something like the online gaming PCs thing? They stream the game from their hardware directly to your lesser hardware, only problem is latency. That's what I'm getting from this.

Tested it out on less demanding online games like csgo and i must say I'm really impressed . I have good internet could be a factor but overall the latency isn't really noticeable.

Ya it's cloud gaming kinda like , your game is being played on a powerful pc and it's being streamed on your screen

I signed up for Geforce Now just because now i'm curious as to what's it like. I have a good computer and don't need it but if the delay isn't bad i know someone who this would be crazy awesome for.

Even if they do bring it, controls will be clunky and I doubt people will carry a spare controller with them everywhere they go
