Preamble:
With power creep, certain classes have become weak relative to their peers, there is no greater example of this than Icebound revenant. Due to power creep and game mechanic changes over the years, the class has really struggled to compete in the meta, struggling to complete even some of the easiest challenge boards at the Inn at the Edge of Time. Originally, the class was created in order to slowly deal ice DOT damage, whilst hiding behind a BPD shield. However the class, deals too little damage in the modern age and dies to chip damage due to the fact the class has a BPD instead of a MPM shield, as well as, having no inherent healing skills. I've decided to revamp Icebound Revenant whilst closely sticking to its core battle philosophy.
Firstly, I'll explain how to load the SWF:
In order to use the revamped icebound revenant, you must first equip or load the icebound revenant class and go into a battle.
During the battle you need to then load the SWF named 'buff_IBR'. You should then get the following notification:
"Icebound Revenant's skills have been drastically improved!"
Note that you only need to do this once; each time you equip or load the Icebound Revenant class.
Skill Breakdown:
Next, I'll give a brief skill breakdown of Icebound Revenant.
The class has 3 in-built ice DOTs, a DOT from Frigid Cold, Long Winter and Icy Touch.
Certain skills will be empowered based on the number of these ice DOTs on the enemy.
- Fortitude of Frost: The skill now applies 'Crippling Chill', -155 crit debuff for 3 turns, to one enemy
- Icy Grip: No change
- Razor Ice: Cooldown decreased to 11 turns and increases long winter counters by 2. This rapidly increases the DOT damage of Long Winter
- Howling Talons of Ice: Cooldown increased to 11 turns and extends all ice DOT durations by 4 turns
- Icebound Fury: No change
- Long winter: Cooldown increased to 5 turns
- Frigid Cold: Cooldown increased to 7 turns and DOT damage increased from 30% to 45% for 5 turns
- Revenant's curse: Cooldown decreased to 11 turns and resistance debuff renamed to 'shadowfrost curse'
- Chains of Ice: Cooldown increased to 9 turns and boost debuff increased from -100% to -200%. Enemy damage is floored at 0% due to game mechanic
- Icy Touch: Cooldown increased to 4 turns
- Will of the Fallen: Cooldown increased to 11 turns, extends all DOT durations by 1 turn and increases DOT damage by a factor of 1.75
- Frost Strike: Cooldown increased to 11 turns and heals HP and MP for (7.5% * Number of ice DOTs on enemy) and (5% * Number of ice DOTs on enemy) respectively. With all 3 ice DOTs on the enemy, this skill heals 22.5% HP and 15% MP.
- Frigid Chill: MP cost increased to 35, cooldown increased to 8 turns and bonus debuff increased from -50 to -75
- Reaver's Desire: Damage dealt is now equal to [180 + 60 * Number of ice DOTs on enemy]. With all 3 ice DOTs on the enemy, this attack inflicts 360%.
Thoughts on Revamped Icebound Revenant
With the revamp, the class now applies all 3 of its ice DOTs and increases the damage and duration with 'Will of the Fallen' and 'Howling Talons of Ice' for massive damage. Note that none of the DOT skills need to connect in order for the DOTs to be applied. This means that Icebound Revenant is a indirect damage machine. The shield is unique in that it's a BPD shield, whilst also applying a crit debuff on one enemy, this means that it's as reliable as an MPM shield in most situations. The class no longer dies to chip damage as it now has a heal! Note that the strength of the heal is linked to the number of ice DOTs on the enemy. Some of its other defensive skills were modernised and buffed too. For example, 'Chains of Ice' was intended as a skill that reduced enemy damage to 0 for one turn, but due to the fact that enemies often apply boost buffs to themselves, the original -100% boost debuff could still allow in considerable damage. Therefore, the boost debuff was increased to -200% boost. As well as this, 'Frigid Chill' now applies a -75 bonus debuff due to the fact bonus rolls out of 150 instead of 100.
Overall, the class should be considered as the ice-based foil of pyromancer, and keeps its original battle philosophy of dealing DOT damage, whilst hiding behind a BPD shield. I would rank the class as A+, based on the ranking system on the DragonFable Endgame Wiki.
Rotation:
Here is a basic rotation that can be used for the new revamped Icebound Revenant
Start the first 2 turns with:
- Revenant's Curse
- Razor Ice
Next, repeat the following every 12 turns:
- Fortitude of Frost
- Frigid Cold
- Long Winter
- Icy Touch
- Will of the Fallen
- Howling Talons of Ice
- Fortitude of Frost
- Icebound Fury
- Frost Strike
- Reaver's Desire
- Frigid Chill
- Razor Ice
If anybody has free time, feel free to upload a video of the revamped Icebound Revenant on YouTube. I would be grateful for anybody to test out the revamped Icebound Revenant and to give feedback on their experience of using the revamped class. Overall, I'm planning for this to be a series, where I revamp old classes that are no longer useful due to power creep and/or game mechanic changes. The next class I'm planning to release is Shadow Hunter.
