I've heard this growing up a ton. Hell, you can put this in a love story and people would agree with it. It's just common sense. Bang is a wise man, but hes not speaking crazy-talk.

We're humans. People do this in real life already. Greed, lust, envy, jealousy, all of it. It's not uncommon for someone to lose something important to them and then look at people who have more and start to hate them, whether they were the cause or not. In Saitamas case, he saved there lives. They're upset because even though that happened, they lost important valuables.
That's all I can get out of the last episode, but nothing is past common sense and general knowledge.
