Samsung S3 - LEDs light up, screen doesn't

Screen doesn't turn on, but when I get a notification the LEDs light up

Here's a fix for you; go to your local store where you bought it from and let them to send it repair place.

They'd probably try to charge you about as much as a S3 costs these days.

True, but everyone would go there instead ask help from a forum, it may cost money but least you have promised the fix, if it still causes issues 2nd time, they'll end up doing it for free.. Cos I know that due my charger broke 2 times and 2nd time it was repair for free.

buy one from ebay, say this problem was on that phone, then send back the broken one. if youre worried you can just switch the serial numbers around too using some rubbing alcohol and a cotton swab with a craft knife
