Is java still great in international communities?

My dad's been programming for close to 40 years and his favorite language is Java. He says that "Javascript isn't a real language and I hate it. But I work in it for some reason."

Let me ask though, how many jobs are you going into, where they are concerned with a low level language. You may find specific use cases, but without a doubt, for most businesses they're working on a high level. There will always be a trade off on delivering value vs engineering.

Honestly, i don't understand what you want to tell me there?
Do you think you can write Operating System Kernels in Java?
Or Car + Plain Blackboxes?
Very Small Microprocessors?
Drivers?!

Companys don't use Java because it's High Level, they use it, because they don't care performance, they don't care user experiences.
They care profit. A Java Application runs on every System where Java can be installed = More Profit, without paying for.

I'm not saying java is the silver bullet to everything. I'm saying that in the context of learning a language, there is nothing wrong with it, as it is still used in many places and the skills you learn are very transferable.

Yes it is about profit, because a company that isn't making money isn't going to be hiring many people.

I dont understand why you're so insistent on not using java. You don't have to use it, but to say it doesn't have it's place, is being ignorant of its use cases. A language is simply a tool, and you pick the right one for the job.
