Publicist plan and objective

Hello fellow MPGH users,

Recently it became apparent to me that the Publicist team has not really been vocal with the community of MPGH. So from now on, we are going to be more transparent.

So lets begin with our primary project. For the past few months, we have been working on a massive project. A VPN. I have been working on this project with whatever spare time I have. Currently, I would say it's about 35% complete. Most major components of the website are implemented; Sessions, User management, Multi-lingual support, Caching, Routes, Task Scheduling, Support Tickets, WYSIWYG, and many other major parts. All system architecture and design has been done. It is currently just a matter of implementation.

The purpose of the VPN is a source of revenue to Publicists (Events and such), Publicist Team, and Forum Administration. This project will enable us to do countless things for the community of MPGH. Currently, the primary thing holding Publicists back, is funding. We cannot host events, servers, and things alike. Hence this project; source of revenue.

Publicist is also working on other projects. We still maintain the official MPGH Wiki. We also are trying to push weekly videos reviewing cheats made by users.

 

1) Payments
  i) PayPal.
  ii) BTC Gateway.
  iii) CoinPayments or another payment gateway. (hopefully NPCVend)
2) Application Clients
  i) Windows (about 45% complete)
  ii) Android (about 20% complete)
  iii) Other *nix platforms (no plans for client support, though tutorials will be provided to use vpn on such platforms)
3) PPTP; SSTP; and Reverse TPC Proxy or Port Forwarder.
  i) PPTP and SSTP will be used so modems and lower level things as such can make use of the vpn.
  ii) TCP proxy or Port Forwarder will allow people to host things with our service. Could be websites, applications, or really anything. 
4) System Monitor.
  i) Monitor VPN Nodes (VPN Servers, cpu usage, ram usage, and more)
  ii) Monitor Web Servers
  iii) Automatic Deployment (Automatically deploy nodes, db servers, web servers)
  iiii) Analytics
5) Review/Feedback system.
  i) Logic for reviews is implemented.
  ii) Feedback system is not a certain thing. May not be implemented.
6) Referral system
7) Client API
8) Link with MPGH account. We could issue discounts and stuff to premium members and sellers.
9) Client Control. Allow user to control all open vpn clients through a web panel. This feature hasn't been thought over much, but it would be good if we implement a Reverse TCP Proxy. Will enable user to remotely control his Reverse TCP Proxy.

... I'm typing this while on a train, and without my actual to do list. So things might be added or removed.

I have made a VPN before so I am familiar with the inner workings of them. And plus, why not?

is it using openvpn? Yes, there will also be support for PPTP, SSTP and a Reverse TCP proxy (not high priority).

logs? No. We may log information essential to making a functional VPN, such as your data usage, and local IP's (NOT YOUR PUBLIC IP), and current connections. But NOTHING MORE than we need to. And if you're worried about DNS leaks and crap, it will be hooked into Cloudflare's 1.1.1.1, which purges all logs after a day. If you say, "WOAH, AFTER A DAY????". Google DNS, something MOST vpn's use, keeps them a lot longer than a day.

roughly how many servers? Just for all the backend operations, we are going to have around 7 servers. But I'm guessing you're speaking about VPN nodes not functional servers. We will have at-least 7 at launch. 2-3 in the states, 1 in germany, 1 in tokyo, 1 in singapore, 1 in london, 1 in sydney, and hopefully one in saint petersburg. If possible, we will also get one in Toronto. Ideally, we will have two in each continent. Though I'm not certain where we will deploy node at launch.

Sounds fun, I've been working on something similar on a smaller scale as a side project, though not using OpenVPN but Shadowsocks on Vultr Servers, I was living in China for 3 years working and got tired of public/paid ones getting taken down, and the OpenVPN protocol is unstable or blocked there.

Haven't posted in a while, so I'm going to post an update on what has been done to the VPN. It hasn't been a lot, as I have been extremely busy with school, but over the next few weeks I plan on pumping out as much as possible.

So far we have added a basic PayPal integration supporting refunds, chargebacks, subscriptions, coupons (discounts), payment states, and basically all that's needed. User Control Panel has been started. Authentication on VPN nodes has been completed, alongside data usage and such. Notification logic is complete. More languages added. Hundreds of phrases (for multi-lingual support) have been translated. Many small bug fixes have been fixed.

This weekend @*M* and I plan on beginning development for the Windows desktop application, which shouldn't be overly hard.
