What do I do after I've learned the basics of C++?

According to the Sticky for Beginner Game Hacking Im supposed to learn DirectX? I found a book, Windows Game Programming for Dummies, and was wondering if this would be sufficient enough to teach me what I need to know, or if you could point me in the direction of something better, Cheers.

what have you learned so far? All basics already? Pointers? Files?

that takes time... and you should practice FIRST, before trying to do something hard... otherwise you will just mix all the stuff and get into the dark hole of C&P and get flammed for the rest of your life.
